Out of interest how many games has Browner played for us? Surely can't be far from 200 now? 153 according to Wikipedia

This news is all so hot - Tabasco sauce My sauce said we were gonna sign Nathan Blissett last week - he needs to Ketchup. (Sorry) That's nothing: I've heard from a couple of independent, verifiable sauces that DC has tabled a cheeky bid for hirsuite, erratic midfield playmaker, Juan Mata. That's two Mata sauces

I wonder if people like Michael Smith wish they would have stayed now, just a thought. thats what I was thinking as apart from smith the back 5 of that relegation season stayed loyal! I heard smith was at wembley though is that true? So greatful for the defence of the side that was part of our relegation as they were the only players who were good that year(8th best defence in the league I think?) it was the rest who were to blame and I was shocked that the defensive lot stayed! The midfield and attack was the reason we went down but yet they all found league clubs! Crazy!

I wonder if people like Michael Smith wish they would have stayed now, just a thought. problem is that he could have stayed and we might have not been promoted, or like Vaughan Jones all those years ago had his leg broke in his first challenge of the season. you just never know...

I agree, yet strangely how many of those wonderful strikers and midfielders have been retained or are currently wanted by their clubs? Answer - the toole has a 3 year contract but Northampton want him to leave, I think all the rest have been moved on or out. Thank feck we got shot of them!

A lot stayed at lge 2 level, some even at Lge 1 level !, but not many are there now. Harrold, Beardsley, bond & Mohamed released and no new deals yet. Gow couldn't get a club. Speaks volumes. most of that squad simply were not good enough. big problem is that lots of clubs, not just us, take players [especially loanees] on their past achievements rather than current form. I guess it's no big surprise for loanees as there must be a reason they are being sent out on loan. Football is such a simple game, yet so complex behind the scenes. And they rarely show the potential they may have once showed, or simply have not quite made it at a higher level. It doesn't mean they are rubbish, or won't improve given time, but it's not often a recipe for success. a few very simple examples - Akinde when he came to us those all those years was just a kid that City had took a gamble on. It didn't payoff for them and he also looked out-of-his depth even at our level. Yet would we have asked for a promising non-lge player to comeon laon to us? NO. we assume that 'big' clubs must be right and must have players who can do a job at lower levels, and can turn it on like a tap. Last season beardsley was at PNE, but only because of 2 vaguely decent seasons at Stevenage. dave martin was living on past glories. Tubbs was on £5.6k a week at the Cherries! That would almost make him a millionaire over his 3 yr contract, yet he's never scored goals above Lge 2 level. At least he went out to Wimbledon and proved himself, but he is still very expensive for Lge 2. Occasionally it does work, such as Will Hoskins, who clearly was class, even though hadn't had much chance at Watford.

If events had been a little kinder to us, I always felt that he would have been happy to remain here. Still it's a few years ago now.

Hoskins is/was a mercenary who didn't want to be here from October onwards. Never should've signed him, despite him being a good player.

He doesn't have a club ATM and I doubt anyone will go for him unless it's pay for play, or even free. A huge risk given his injuiries. 6 appearances in last 2 seasons. Hasn't scored since Jan 2O13 Truly staggering stat - Hasn't played a full game of football since leaving us.

As you say, staggering . . . truly staggering. I didn't realise that things were quite as bad as they are for him. And there was me thinking that he was still at Oxford

As you say, staggering . . . truly staggering. I didn't realise that things were quite as bad as they are for him. And there was me thinking that he was still at Oxford he's only just been released by Oxford I think. 6 games - 4 at start of season, and 2 in Jan. Most as sub. Injured the whole of previous season. I can see retirement looming. I only found the staggering stat as I was going backwards through each game to find his last full match of football [he was often taken off in a match, often quite early, or used as impact sub a lot]. As I got to Autumn 2O11 I thought, christ, we'll be back at Rovers soon, and so it was...
