I think it's nice to have such a selection headache - two keepers, both imperfect but both being considered for their positive aspects and contributions to our season.
Mildenhall undoubtedly has the experience. He's taller, is the better goal-kicker and has featured in a bigger part of our season.
Puddy is a version of the 'modern', 'shorter' 'keeper - quicker to distribute, often with a shorter pass/throw. Ever so slightly weaker in the air but is a talented shot-stopper and possesses natural ability in one-on-one situations.
Personally, I think the selection of either goalie will boost them enough to perform capably in either match, or at Wembley. Both will still hold the potential to make mistake but so will EVERY 'keeper at our level.
For me, I would select Puddy in the first play-off fixture. I'd get him on high-intensity aerial training in the build up, with significant video work involving his past matches and opposition footage. Barring any major catastrophes, I'd stick with him as far as we go.
I don't dislike Mildy but I'd stick with the momentum and increasing match-time that Puddy has been gathering.

I understand the distribution argument, though every time I've seen him kick he seems to send it straight into the crowd. The keeper should be there to do one main job, though... stand firm and keep out the opposition. I wonder who Parkes and McChrystal would feel safer in front of tomorrow? Exactly how many games is that then Nick? His distribution out of hands (throwing) is exc. His distribution kicking can be erratic. I agree on that. BUT do you remember Mickel Andersen only having one tactic? Kick it wide left to jeff Hughes. Boring? yes. Predictable? yes. Ordered by the manager? Yes. Effective? Most probably, given the option. could...um...there be some reason why Puddy ..um... kicks it wide left to Monkey, the tallest wide player we've had since...um ... Jeff Hughes?? And sometimes he gets it wrong, but does that make him a worst keeper than Mildy? I also remember the same with dave savage. Do the math as the Americans say. Enough to make an informed judgement I would say, and I've seen Mildy in plenty of games. All keepers can go through a bit of a ropey patch but I would think he was professional enough to work on that. There is no substitute for experience, though, and every team in these playoffs have it in abundance. Maybe I'm coloured by the fact that in the games I have seen Puddy he has never inspired me with confidence. We wouldn't have got close to where we are if that absolute ricket in the second half at Macclesfield had gone in. I saw him at Barnet, too, where he cost us dearly. It's not a criticism though it's a serious decision, and if the board aren't allowing Darrell to pick Mildenhall for the most important games in our history just because he will trigger some extension clause, then how shortsighted is that?

I've heard rumblings that Mildy is stuck on 29 league games for a reason Yeah, it's because he keeps throwing them in

100% Puddy. His kicking from hand is superb as is his distribution by hand and his dead ball kicking is excellent. I don't recall one instance on Saturday when he kicked the ball straight into touch. I've also noticed now that if he doesn't get that right, he will change tactic and start kicking straight down the pitch to our tallest forward rather than punting it down to our smallest one. I've not seen him struggle with high balls although I do too feel a bit nervous for him at corners and free kicks but if you have the timing right you'll collect most crosses that come in. And lets not forget all the evidence, video and home fans confirm he was fouled at Dover to concede that goal.

Isn't it great that we have genuine competition for the No.1 shirt!
Happy with either, but in general don't like too much chopping and changing in goal even though the competition is good. Puddy for me.

If Clarke has decided Puddy is his number one, it'd be stupid to deliberately trigger an extension for Mildenhall. There's nothing to stop us offering the big man a contract in the summer even if he doesn't play again this season, but with a budget to manage it makes sense to keep our options open.

I think Puddy should have been playing regardless as Mildy looked shot when he did come back into the team before being dropped and Puddy has been fine since.
Unfortunately hits hard not to wonder what sort of extension clauses have ended up in some contracts

Agree with you about Will, he should not have been dropped in the first place after Steve had been out through injury, he didn't deserve to be dropped and Steve didn't deserve to be reinstated as he doesn't now. I wish our fans would start giving him some louder support before and during the game, I get really annoyed when people started baying "Mildenhall, Mildenhall" when he comes out before the match, yet make no attempt to verbally support Will or appear to reluctantly applaud him when he makes a good save or good distribution. Get behind him Gasheads, he's one of our team and an extremely important one ! People comment on the fact of how few goals we've conceded when he is playing and attribute it to the defence as if he's nothing to do with it. Lets get behind him with some loud support these next two games and hopefully a third. Come on ROVERS, Come on you BLUES !!!
