I must admit that I am finding it really difficult to justify a spend of over £900 for season tickets for my 2 lads and I and I wonder how many are in the same boat.
I have been a season ticket holder for approx 10 years and I have really got to know the community that sits around us. Yesterday I checked how many people have renewed so far and it was only 7 out of approx 18.
When we speak to the shop we get told :
a) many people purchased tickets before we were out of the league b) we are competitively priced compared to the rest of the conference.
I realise that they are only telling us what they have been told to say but the reality is that once again the club is handling this situation terribly.
Firstly I agree that the people who paid early should not be penalised. To base a pricing structure on that factor alone is not good enough.
Secondly many conference sides have very limited seating arrangements and consequently demand outstrips supply . They charge greater prices as a means of rationing the tickets to make sure there are enough to go round. Rovers have more than enough tickets to go round.
The reality is that we all know that the club will have promotions throughout the season and if attendances fall then they will introduce more. I suspect that we may even find that paying on the gate on a match by match basis will be cheaper than paying out up front. It also irks me that my neighbour who is a Cardiff season ticket holder will pay 30% less to see Championship soccer in a state of the art stadium that we would pay to see Conference Football in a stadium in need of replacement.
It seems once again that Rovers fans are being taken for granted and taken for fools . I must admit that much of the fun in watching Rovers is the camaraderie with the fools around me who turn up week in week out regardless of what we see on the pitch in front of us. The gallows humour, the general banter from the fans has been more entertaining than the football on a lot of occasions so if indeed our little community is fragmented then that is another reason not to renew.
To my mind Rovers should now make a gesture which would for a change be a PR positive and which may be the excuse that many of us need for renewing .
If they were to announce that they would knock 20% off next seasons tickets for anyone who continues to renew this year then that would encourage more to renew.
I suspect that this gesture may cost theoretically but if more people renew than may other wise do so then it would pay for itself. It would also mean that the people who do renew are llikely to renew for next year as they will wish to get the bargain tickets. The Rovers people will know the sums and what percentage have renewed so far.
I know that it is too much to hope that the powers that be will think of the fans but wouldnt it be lovely if they made such a gesture?

I think the sales figures for the next season so far are about 2000 down approx 1000-1200 on last season think that's a good indication that pricing is not quite right yet I sure i read somewhere on the Oficial site that they are doing family deals this season

As of last week we had sold just over 2100 season tickets. We are 350 down on last season at this stage. Half season tickets will kick in later. Why do you think prices are structured around the fact that people like me bought our season tickets early? I bought mine because I love my club. It wouldn't make any difference to me who runs it. I support the club not a bunch of transient directors.
How do you know that other conference sides base their season ticket prices on the number of seats they have? Forest Green don't for a fact. Wrexham? Grimsby? Aldershot?
Who cares about Cardiff? Totally different. They have just had a year in the premiership. £90m + ? Plus parachute payts for years to come. They could afford to let people in for nowt this season, so perhaps we should pay people to come and watch, mind you with some of our performances last season I could well believe it.
Why are we being taken for fools? We know exactly where we are and you have a right to choose. If you really feel like you sound, don't buy any. Go as and when you wish.
I can understand if you said its a high cost at a time when money is tight. A lot of people are in that position, and that is understandable. But if you can afford it, you have a simple choice. Less than 50 people have moaned about the fact we got relegated after buying their season tickets. But again, they had a choice.
I happen to believe if we keep on taking up people's money off advice in every way they suggest, we'd have so little income we wouldn't be able to recruit a team. So of course, the issue is choice. I, and many others have made ours, and now it's your turn. I hope you keep the faith, but whether you do or not, it's a simple choice based on economics. If we had sold next to none prices would come down. But we probably wouldn't survive either.
It's strange. Apparently about 200 people are season ticket holders this season whilst they were not last season. I know in the case of a friend of mine and his brother, who are Stoke fans who live in Bristol, they have bought them in an act if solidarity. They love Rovers as well, and go when they can. But they understand that we are in danger, and want to help out by buying a season ticket each.
For people (not you) be careful what you wish for. I just want a new board, and a team we can be proud of. That doesn't come cheap. But I never want to be in Herefords position. I can't imagine not seeing my club nearly every weekend. Can you?

I must know of around 20 season-ticket holders and only 1 has said he won't be renewing this season. I just hope the board recognise the loyalty of the fans & give every-bit of backing to Darrell to allow him a good crack at getting back into the league at the first attempt.

I dont tbink the ST pricing is bad especially for standing, however what is not so good is attracting new fans, we cag to encourage new fans when they are looking from a distance
Oh and Kids as City have far better pricing there for the mid teens range, or the next hardcore support as it werent keep relying on those of us who would go anyway
We need to market the club better whatever division we are in and also to look like we have some direction.
Right now we amble from one mess to the next.

Fair enough, but asking customers to pay the same price as when they were watching L1 football exposes again the moronic mindset of thinking you will get away with squeezing more out of fewer customers for a product of poorer quality. Is marketing the club to increase attendances too difficult a concept for Watola? It would take all of 5 minutes to draft a letter to send to every name and address they hold, thanking those who have bought a season ticket and begging those who haven't to help the club when it's on its knees. Have they done it, you know the answer. Following the last promotion prices went up, that was justified by an increase in operating costs at a higher level. Here are are 2 relegations later and no reductions. Hard to think that there's a worse run football club in the country.

What people like Toteend don't realise they're describing is what economists call a cartel - There is only one source to get the product you want (in this case Bristol Rovers FC matches) and that one source can, to a degree, charge what it likes before people decide they can't afford or don't want that product any more; that's what is happening and that's why I'm convinced that club has been on this trajectory for the fifteen years. Success costs money! League fees, players wages all that sort of stuff but the income isn't correlative because give or take a few hundred the average gate remains the same. It's a conspiracy theory yes but one I've been convinced of since Ollie's side missed out on dead cert promotion and I'm not convinced he doesn't allude to it in his book. Now the current situation is where the "plan" has gone wrong - I don't think it is an actual plan more of a happy lessez faire attitude - because now we've lost our football league payouts.

Well Henbury, I wasn't going to go again, but you've persuaded me.
I'm such a dullard I would never have thought of that as a strap line to entice customers who were thinking of not returning.

Season ticket prices are fine; two of my boys, all my mates and myself bought early; why would it matter which division we are playing in; yes the Chairman and the Directors feel they are better than the rank and file; however, we do not give a **** about them, it is the supporters club, and without us, there would not be a BRFC. I have a season ticket for next time, but because the mess the club is in i can't say i'm looking forward to going. At the moment I have no belief and confidence in the Board. No hope.
If the UWE if finished and we're left with this the same board i don't really see the point in following em.
Rovers carrying on with this board,no UWE is almost as bad as playing in a 'Prem Reserve Team B Division'.
I will be left with a very tiny sad hope of 'well, you never know' and that won't be enough, not after Rovers recent history.
