I am going to watch FC United at Curzon Ashton on Saturday. Bit of a shame - when I agreed to it ages ago I thought they'd be in their new ground by now.

Also another one of note Hereford's first game as the new club is against FCUM at Edgar Street on the 11th of July if anyone's is interested. I'll be at Dulwich against Altona and another game that day though... Shame.

There's been huge delays on that stadium though - originally they were supposed to move in halfway through LAST season.

Harringey - Clapton was switched to the Old Spotted Dog and Clapton won 1-0 thanks to a first half own goal. Clapton went down to ten men after half an hour after a defender handled on the line. Harringey then managed to miss the penalty shanking it wide. Clapton held on to go through to the GB Final. Cue pitch invasion from the Clapton Ultras.
On Friday I got on the Eurostar to Lille met my parents then it was off on the train to Vallencienes. Vallencienes is a really nice provincial town and we stopped at a couple of bars on the mile and a half walk to the ground. Now the ground is bloody lovely, an imposing stainless steel clad bowl right next to the site of their old ground. The ground holds 25,000 and is an absolute beaut. The game between two strugglers saw the visitors Arles create the best chances of the first half. The hosts kicked on in the second half however with Vallencienes taking the lead after a mazey run led to a shot that was parried and then bundled over the line. The second came from a long ball and a low hard shot from the edge of the area on an angle from the right. While in injury time Arles keeper tried to play out from the back and was dispossessed by a VFC player who knocked it back to a colleague to fire home from 30 yards. Lovely stuff, good couple of games, Dublin is definitely happening!

I was wrong they moved the game to Stalybridge to accomodate the larger crowd. Not been there either but it's an old school non-league ground quite similar to Twerton and with a scenic backdrop. Atmosphere was amazing for a non-league game. There were 3000 there but I've heard 20,000 make less noise. Game was surprisingly good quality too. If FC United can replicated that kind of turnout regularly when they move to Manchester itself they will have every chance of becoming a league club but I'm still not convinced that's really their ambition. Have been told that there's absolutely no chance of tickets for Benfica game as they will be going to long standing club members which is completely fair enough. Still looking forward to going to the new ground now. If they win on Tuesday night then they are in Conference North next year.

FCUM have been very clever, they've worked hard to ensure the club has everything in place for promotions before throwing money at the playing staff. A proper community club.

FCUM have been very clever, they've worked hard to ensure the club has everything in place for promotions before throwing money at the playing staff. A proper community club. Yes - and it will be interesting to see if a community club that is now actually based in its community can continue to grow. Being in Manchester gives them a good chance of tapping into Manchester's large student community too who don't have a club they can afford to watch on a regular basis. I think if they managed to reach the Conference and boost their profile a bit they could really develop as a club. Having their own ground should make a hell of a difference. Only thing I would say is that they are most definitely a 'Man United' club - there's no doubt a frustrated Man City fan (and there are an awful lot of them to for similar reasons) would not feel welcome. But I think if they're successful I can see more FC club developing to take advantage of the disconnect so many people feel with the clubs they grew up with. The Liverpool one was basically a failure but if people had a an example and model they could build from you could see it taking off a bit. The passion among the fans and people involved was really amazing. It strikes me as a much better and more positive starting point for 'fan owned' clubs than taking over the mess of an existing club. You are actively building something rather than desperately trying to preserve it. Much easier for people to buy into that.

Horay!
Booked up to go to Shamrock Rovers vs Sligo Rovers on the 5th of June. Looking forward to another little jaunt in Dublin. Hopefully will try and find a Saturday game in the greater Dublin area.

Ticked off Bolton the other week so it's 86 for me out of the 92 and I think 195 senior grounds. Hopefully I can do Stevenage next year with Rovers, and I am up near Inverness in early August and am hoping they play their first European tie then and maybe Ross County in an early league match. I managed to get away with Aberdeen v Real Sociedad and Stenhousemuir v Airdrie last year when we were on holiday, but she drew the line when I tried to sneak off to Fraserburgh v Dyce juniors

I've done Stenhousemuir, was on the terrace behind the goal with some East Fife supporters. It was so cold my snot froze in my nose and the linesman went off with Hypothermia.

Did a count up the other day and I've done 43 in total (being unambitious in my teens and going to the likes of Oxford and Cheltenham every season is counting against me!) Hope I can at least get to 50 by the end of next season!

Shamrock beat Sligo 5-1, an entertaining game and a lot closer than the scoreline suggests. Was impressed with Shamrock's striker Mikey Drennan ex-Villa, their supporters seemed to think he'd only be there til October (summer season). While in Ireland I also managed to sneak a look around Bray Wanderers Carlisle Grounds where, I bumped into their General Manager. He gave me a couple of old programmes and a badge which, was bloody lovely. I also snuck into Tolka Park the home of Shelborne, their coach was just about to leave for an away game so had a nice chat with some of their players. Yesterday I took in some Hurling at Croke Park which, was an enjoyable experience. An amazingly fast sport!

I bloody wish. TBF, 2 nights in Dublin was a lot cheaper than Wembley! Cut back on my domestic hopping to save for some more trips as well. Holidays are the usual but I try and get games in while I go away (in Mexico last year I saw a trialist match at Inter Playa Del Carmen obviously).
