Anyone else heard about Mildenhall being on his way to Cheltenham? Their number one ( and ex keeper for C*ty) Scott Brown declined a new contract. They will no doubt be looking for a new number one and it would make sense for Mildy to consider an offer should they make one. Only speculation (twitter predominantly) currently.

I doubt Cheltenham can match his wages. Wouldn't exactly be a step up for him - lower crowds, even worse stadium than ours. I hope he is a player determined to right the wrongs from last season, not move on, but we'll find out soon enough.

It depends whether Mildy feels that he has too few years left in the game to play non league at this stage. Wouldn't hold it against him if he did decide to leave but would be very disappointed especially to lose him to Cheltenham.

Contracted, so unless like O'Toole he has a rat clause in his deal or we won't want to keep him, I can't see Cheltenham being able to buy him.

Pretty sure that rumor started on the old forum when someone said that he could imagine Milldenhall playing for someone like Cheltenham.
Wouldn't surprise me, but Cheltenham would have to pay a fee or take over his wages. As the above poster notes, I doubt Cheltenham will be able to match the deal he is already on.

He has told people that he would demand a transfer if they got rid of his keepers coach.

I hope Mildy stays; great keeper IMO, however, I guess if he gets a better offer to stay in the football league you could not blame him if he wanted to leave. UTG

UTG why couldn't you blame him for wanting to leave if that is what happens? he was part of a team that got us relegated. he's in contract. If he broke his leg tomorrow we pay his wages for 2 more years. We show loyalty, why can't he. and all the others. he should stay and fight for us. I don;t imagine fans of other relegated clubs will be so generous as we are. We seem to be saying that nearly all our players are 'such decent guys' so it's fine if they want to leave. It isn't fine.

First of all dear chap it is a job usually noted as "Professional Footballer" on their passport. However it is a job with a difference - it is coveted by people who would really like to be doing the job but don't have the ability or the luck to do it. They spend a lot of time wishing they could do it but they won't do it at a professional level.
Most football fans (with exceptions, of course)don't have jobs necessarily coveted by other people as a natural response to their employment.
I cannot say about Bristol Rovers but I suspect that some people on this message board if "head hunted" by someone else for the same job might give that offer consideration.
Some players do have an allegiance but it is rare today hence the lack of testimonials to celebrate 10 years of the same player with the same club which were a regular feature of my youth. How many testimonial games have you lot attended?
Mr Mildenhall's agent is currently trying to get the Conference League off his CV whether to Cheltenham or elsewhere. That is also his job. That is what Mr Mildenhall is paying him for.
My experience of the Conference (aka Tinpot League) is that all of those who can get out of it will do so. You don't want to be down here, me neither. Why would a player want to be down here if it could possibly be avoided?
The "stay and fight for us" line does not work because football supporters are always the first to turn on players and then to be surprised when Hull come in for the player they would "drive to their ground".
Funny old business football I think. Regardless of that I think any of your current players who can get out of the Conference (this applies to all Conference Clubs) even to sit on the bench in a higher division would probably be well advised to do so. My opinion only.
Anyone coming up from below is different. They think they've made it.
All the players of everyone are up for grabs if someone wants to attempt it. Including the lower league recently unearthed "gems". See under the Lambert thread. He merely passed through, leaving you a windfall, but no he did not plight his troth to Bristol Rovers for the rest of his life either.
You wouldn't would you? It is a job and if you've got any sense you go where the money is or to get the Conference off the CV. You won't find many Football League players who will tell you that their remaining ambition is to play in the Conference League. Bugger the club.

Rovers new pro keeper Kieran Preston who was under 18's player of the season is highly rated at the Club and by Darrell Clarke. I am sure he will be given a chance in pre season friendlies to prove himself

I know they took one of our young goalkeepers, and I thought someone said they were keeping tabs on another who could play in the under 18's

I'm not sure we can really expect a young lad who has never even made the bench to step up.

I'm not sure we can really expect a young lad who has never even made the bench to step up. The team I follow here had a goalkeeping crisis a few seasons ago. We put our young 18 year old goalkeeper in instead of going out and getting a new keeper. He was then signed by Club Brugge. Got Belgium goalkeeper of the year, and is the Australian number one at age 22. Look out for Matt Ryan. He'll be playing somewhere better than Belgium soon. Young goalkeepers can make it. Thanks Wes, I'm getting confused by all the goalkeepers of ours Arsenal are interested in.

Makes me laugh - the old wouldn't want Conference on their CV!
Let's just have "Bristol Rovers 2013/14 - relegated from L2 - didn't gave the guts to hang around & take responsibility, not my fault".
I'm not sure I can be bothered to watch any more football.

Hundreds do not though because they were thrown in the deep end too early, or were just not good enough (Mike Green, Conor Gough spring to mind). Give me experience at this moment in time. We saw what happened when we threw the kids in the deep end last year. If the lad is that good, then lets ease him into the first team squad.

For the new season he's a second year scholar as far as i know, seen him play twice last season, very good keeper, i know a Notts Forest fan who said he was well thought of up there aswell before he moved from them down to us.
