Thought UWE was about generated income, and who would get it. How do you propose we get the money to buy the land and build a stadium. Are there any other plots of land available apart from the rumoured one in South Gloucestershire.? Don't we own the mem then?

Agreed not much intent Just waffle from previous owner saying new owner is a fantastic business real estate man. The Mem is being offered to developer of new FM stadium as payment to ensure we are able to rent the new stadium. The locals won't be amused at blocks of flats probably student units on a busy road on Filton Avenue So we're going to be tenants of any new stadium and for the privilege the owners get the mem site? Wasn't the main reason the club didn't proceed with the UWE project that we wouldn't own the stadium??? I'm sure Wael has been quoted as saying that it's important that we own any future stadium? Is this not the reason why we left Eastville all those years ago, we didn't own the stadium and the greyhound company our the rent up beyond what we could afford?? Didn't Coventry get themselves in trouble because they didn't own the stadium??? Why are people so happy for the club to sign away the one major asset that we have?? I don't see why why can't redevelop the mem along the lines of the plans years ago with students accomodation etc? Yes,waq said in a Radio Bristol interview that Rovers would "be a nomad club with no home" then he went onto say that Rovers owned a "beautiful" piece of land at the Mem and it could be rebuilt into a modern stadium.... Would be good if all his interviews and the ones with Hamer that relate to stadiums could be put onto one thread, there would be a hell of a lot of contradicting statements in there. I look back to the Frenchay hospital v Southmead hospital saga...where shall we build the 'super hospital' ? well it was obvious that the better location would be Frenchay, however houses at Frenchay would be worth more than houses on the Southmead hospital site so we now have a hospital where patients have to negotiate permanently busy roads and theres not enough parking for the staff. Similarly the Memorial site will be worth more for housing and Rovers will end up leasing a stadium in an area that is hard to get for most (?) people, getting there for a night game will be like an awayday. The other concern should be what sort of a stadium will it be ? I expect something like Walsall before they extended the stand.

I'm not boxing off Hussain as being weak because some of the things he talked about were very encouraging and, dare I say it, echo what I've been posting about for the last few years. But I do think the interview was weak and a lost opportunity to at least start to make a break with the past and and to give some encouragement that a more forceful style of management is on the way. Instead we heard a lot about partnerships and working together and this cosiness gave the impression (perhaps especially in Wael's eyes) that nothing much is going to change. I'm not a believer in fudging or contrived trade off's or trying to please everyone so I'm hoping that Hussain will soon emerge as the clear and decisive leader of the club. The most glaring example of weakness was in Wael's attempts to answer questions about the South Stand. Are you able to defend this or do you even want to now ? Question. It’s obvious the South Stand has not gone as planned and is being delayed, why is that, was it a case of not applying for planning permission or not getting planning permission and are you confident it will be resolved sooner rather than later ? Well, I mean, expecting a stand to be built in a couple of weeks wasn’t going to happen was it. I mean you know the way things are with contractors with councils with everything. I mean these hiccups do happen and unfortunately some hiccups have happened but we’re dealing with it and again the goal and ambition is to get that stand built as soon as possible. We’re all working towards that.
Question. Have mistakes been made ? Hindsight is a wonderful thing but would you have done things differently if you could start again ? Um, I don’t think so because, you know, we’re hostage to events that are out of our control in terms of just getting approval. Or, you know, contractors and timelines that you can plan all you want to get it done in a month or two but, you know, in reality when you come to execute things kinda get delayed.
Question. When do you expect to get it resolved, are plans in place for if you don’t get planning permission ? Well, I mean, the way we’re handling it is that we’re trying to manage it to get it done as soon as possible. How long will that take ? I can hope it’s short term, so, uh.
If this had been a boxing match we all know what the referee would have done. Not sure what Wael answering questions about the new stand as to do with the new co-owners, or were you expecting Hussain to butt in and say "just admit it Wael you messed up and you will need to do better in future if this partnership is going to work"? The topic is about the interview with the new owner & Wael so I was replying to ITB who questioned my opinion that the interview was weak. I gave Wael's response to very straightforward questions about the South Stand as an example of this weakness. You used the term "butt in" and this is what Wael did on 33.3 mins when he was clearly uncomfortable about Hussain saying he wasn't going to give JB more money and that he wants to develop the football side and the infrastructure in tandem and not rush the football side. This is in complete conflict with JB's stated ambition to reach the Championship within two years and we know Wael is on record as saying that he usually ends up agreeing with JB. Here is what Hussain said when he was asked whether JB will have more money to spend on players. Well, this is not really our aim. As I say, the club requires a lot of work and not just on the football side but also on the infrastructure as well. So we are trying to balance it. It's a formula that we would like to keep it in balance, you know, keeping the manager happy enough, or as much as we can, at the same time working on the infrastructure so we can take them both up at the same time. Rather than rushing the football side and you don't have really the infrastructure to support that then you come back down again so that's not really what we want. We want really for both to go together so that we can sustain the moving forward and hopefully to a higher league. NB. When Hussain talks about improving the infrastructure I don't think he means just physical infrastructure at the training ground and the Mem. I think he means improving the management and organisational infrastructure as well. The executive committee idea has gradually disintegrated so something needs to replace that and to run a business for eighteen months without a Head of Finance / Financial Controller was inviting trouble.

We probably could have redeveloped the Mem into a tidy sustainable place with gates around 12,000 with the monies spent by NH & WAQ chasing the Stadium dream

Recall when Mr Wael took over he appointed all these top notch directors who were all like a dream. One had overseen the building of Wembley, one, Will Dubey who was a performance analyst, etc ,etc but within a very short time they all left,'For family reasons'. Bit thin on the Directors and Admin front currently. At our little Devon and Exeter league club here ,a lot of Travellers moved onto the pitch last week.Pitch, litter, contamination etc will be sorted for Sat's opener against Lyme Regis but running a club at all levels ain't easy.

It sounds to me like the new owner is trying to manage expectations right from the off, I don't want to be pessimistic but this guy has a lot of experience in real estate etc, but seemingly no great interest in football. Is anyone else thinking like me possible asset stripper? I know everyone seems to think that Wael is really genuine etc, but could it be that he has concluded owning/running a English lower league club isn't as easy as he thought, and wants out, his family probably aren't too happy about the money he's flitted away on this vanity project. Maybe he's under pressure to recoup some of the losses he's made as a result of owning brfc. I may be completely wrong and I don't know the ins and outs of the finances etc. but I really hope this doesn't all end really badly.
