INCREDIBLE: Serie A: Lecce manager Roberto D'Aversa sacked after headbutting Verona striker..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F828/production/_132882536_gettyimages-2073204481.jpgLecce have sacked manager Roberto D'Aversa after he headbutted Verona striker Thomas Henry following Sunday's 1-0 loss in Serie A. D'Aversa, 48, and Henry both received red cards for their part in the incident which took place as tempers flared after the final whistle. The Lecce boss admitted his actions were "inexcusable" when speaking after the game at Stadio Via del Mare. Lecce announced D'Aversa had been "relieved of his duties" on Monday. The club put his dismissal down to "the events that occurred at the end of the Lecce-Verona match". Sunday's loss saw Lecce drop to 15th in Italy's top flight, two places below Verona, with just a one-point cushion to the relegation zone. Lecce have won just one of their last 12 league fixtures, losing nine during that stretch. They appointed D'Aversa to replace Marco Baroni last summer. D'Aversa previously spent time in charge of Virtus Lanciano, Parma and Sampdoria.

Adding to the post above: Rafa Benitez is Sacked by Celta Vigo after a dismal eight months in charge..by Ed Carruthersi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/12/14/82362077-13187519-image-a-66_1710252014936.jpgCelta Vigo have announced that they have parted ways with their manager Rafa Benitez after less than a season in charge, with the former Liverpool boss 'failing to achieve the club's expectations.' The embattled Spaniard, who joined the LaLiga club in July 2023, had refused to quit his role as the Celta boss, following a poor run of form. The 63-year-old had been out of work for over a year after he was let go by Everton in 2022 but stepped back into management to take charge of 33 games at Celta Vigo. He would go on to see his side lose 14 league matches with Celta slumping to 17th in the Spanish top flight - two points clear of the relegation zone. The club said in a statement: 'Rafa Benítez and his staff leave RC Celta after eight months of absolute dedication and total commitment, but in which the team has not obtained the results expected by the club. 'The club would like to express to Rafa Benítez and his assistants its most sincere gratitude for the honesty and professionalism they have shown since their arrival and the tireless work they have done. 'RC Celta would also like to wish them the best of luck and success in the future.'

Gary Rowett: Birmingham City bring back former manager as interim boss..By Ged Scott, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/176A2/production/_132960959_gettyimages-1585579942.jpg Gary Rowett left his job as Millwall manager in OctoberBirmingham City have brought back popular former manager Gary Rowett as interim boss until the end of the season in a bid to end their alarming run of Championship results. The 50-year-old, who has been doing media work since leaving Millwall in October, has taken charge in the continued absence of Tony Mowbray. Assistant Mark Venus has stood in since Mowbray stepped away on 19 February. But Blues have picked up just one point in the six Championship matches since. That has left the US-owned club on the edge of the relegation zone with eight games left this season, kept out of the bottom three only on goal difference. Mowbray is having medical treatment for an unnamed illness and the club confirmed he "will take a formal medical leave of absence until the start of pre-season 2024-25". Venus will also step away until the start of next season. Mowbray played a role in identifying Rowett as the man to take on the role in his absence, the club added. "Based on Tony's decision to take some additional time away, we agreed it is in the club's best interests to appoint Gary Rowett to lead the team forward from the touchline for the final eight games of the season. Gary is an experienced leader and has our full support," said co-owner and chairman Tom Wagner. Former Blues player and manager Rowett is back at the club for a third time and will become the sixth different man to pick a team this season, following John Eustace, Wayne Rooney, caretaker Steve Spooner, Mowbray and Venus. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/D184/production/_132963635_venomogga.jpgMark Venus (left) has been Tony Mowbray's right-hand man in all his time in management

John Doolan: Accrington Stanley interim boss appointed manager on three-year deal..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17065/production/_132990349_shutterstock_editorial_14382335q.jpg John Doolan has overseen one defeat, one victory and one draw in his three games in interim charge of Accrington Stanley
Accrington Stanley have appointed interim boss John Doolan as their first team manager on a three-year contract. The 55-year-old has been in charge for three games after taking over when long-serving manager John Coleman was sacked earlier in March. Doolan, who has been a coach at the club since 2017, has taken four points from a possible nine in interim charge. "I am very excited to take this role full-time, I am happy, I just can't wait to get going," Doolan said. "Now the buck stops with me, the players are asking questions, the staff, there is everything to manage, but I have taken that responsibility on since I became interim manager and I have embraced it." In his role as first-team coach, Doolan was part of the backroom team that helped Stanley to the League Two title in 2018 - while he also previously played for the club. Prior to joining Stanley as a coach, Doolan worked in the Liverpool and Everton academies, and also coached at Wigan during their time in the Premier League. He then moved to Hibernian in 2014, where he was part of their management team as they won the Scottish Cup in 2016. "Having known John for several years, I'm confident he has the attitude, aptitude, and footballing ability to ensure our club grows and is run in a stable manner," chairman Andy Holt added. "I look forward to helping John in his pursuit of the right people, and to assist him over the coming years wherever possible."

Ian Foster: Plymouth Argyle head coach sacked after three months in charge..By Brent Pilnick, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/2/e8ca0378-a1be-433f-84a4-2627eb4076f1.jpg Ian Foster won just four of his 17 games in charge - only three of those wins came in the ChampionshipPlymouth Argyle have sacked head coach Ian Foster after just three months in the job. The former England Under-20 boss has been in charge of the Championship club since early January after Steven Schumacher left for Stoke City. After an initial good start, Argyle's form fell away drastically over the past two months as they won just one of 11 Championship games. The slump has left Argyle one place and one point off the relegation places. Director of Football Neil Dewsnip and first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell will take charge of the team for the remainder of the season. First team coach Simon Ireland and goalkeeping coach Daryl Flahavan - who joined the club under Foster - will stay on their roles. "Ian was hired through a thorough and extensive recruitment process and his coaching credentials really stood out when making the appointment," chairman Simon Hallett said in a statement on the club website. "But we have to balance long-term stability against short-term decisions, and we have given Ian as long as possible to see if results could improve. "Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case, and we feel now is the right time to make a change to give us the best chance of securing survival." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16D37/production/_133059439_ianfosterbristolcity1april2024rex3.jpgNo permanent Plymouth Argyle boss has had a shorter time in charge of the club as Ian FosterArgyle's 1-0 loss to Bristol City at Home Park on Easter Monday was their fifth successive home game without a goal. In two of those games they failed to register a shot on target, leading to calls from some supporters for Foster to go. Foster, who left his role as Steven Gerrard's assistant at Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq to take over at Argyle, was unbeaten in his first five games in charge of the side as he led Argyle to wins over Sutton United in the FA Cup and victories over Cardiff City and Swansea City. But following an extra-time loss to Leeds United in an FA Cup fourth-round replay, a 2-0 win at Middlesbrough and two draws were the only positive results in the following 11 league games. Immediately after the Bristol City loss Foster said he had had no discussions with the Argyle board about his future in the role, or any concerns that the club might seek a new head coach. "Nobody's happy when you don't win a game of football - this is our lives and our livelihoods," Foster told BBC Radio Devon. "We're fighting and that's the key thing. We're not a group who take things lightly, we're not a group that give in, we're not a group who look for excuses. "We take responsibility and we'll try our best to go again."

Former Rotherham United boss Ronnie Moore has secured a return to football – as Hartlepool United’s chief scout..by Tom Coatesi2-prod.liverpoolecho.co.uk/incoming/article6900262.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/3080979.jpgFormer Tranmere manager Ronnie MooreThe 71-year-old has been away from the game since 2016, when his stint in charge of non-league outfit Eastleigh came to an end. However, he has now returned to one of his former clubs to take on a scouting role. As part of his new role, he will attend games to watch Pools targets and also aid with the decision-making process when it comes to signing players. He said: "It's fantastic to be back at Hartlepool and I'm really looking forward to it. I've never forgotten my time at Pools - I had a few promotions in my career, but that survival feeling was one of the best emotions I've ever felt. The supporters were extraordinary and I’m passionate about this club. I want to see it back where it belongs. “Often as a manager I would scout players myself, but I’m really looking forward to being able to solely focus on recruitment, giving it my full time and attention. We've got a list of targets to look at for the summer and it's important to get some winning players into the squad. It's not just about how good they are on the pitch but what they're like in the dressing room - that's why doing the correct due diligence is vital.” Hartlepool’s chairman Raj Singh added: “What Ronnie achieved here as a manager puts him in the highest regard and you can tell that he cares deeply about the Club and wants it to be successful. That for me was very important. "He also knows this level of football exceptionally well and is based in Yorkshire, allowing him to easily cover the patch south of Hartlepool where a lot of our players can realistically come from. I’d like to welcome Ronnie back to the club and wish him every success." A forward in his playing days, Moore represented the likes of Rotherham, Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City before hanging up his boots. He then ventured into management and has had two spells in charge of Rotherham.

Leam Richardson: Rotherham United sack head coach after Championship relegation..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4BBA/production/_133168391_gettyimages-2141940410.jpg Leam Richardson won just two of his 24 matches as Rotherham bossRotherham United have sacked head coach Leam Richardson, two weeks after their relegation to League One was confirmed. The Millers have endured a torrid campaign and are 22 points adrift of safety with three games to play. Richardson took over in December from the sacked Matt Taylor but won just two of his 24 games in charge. "The search to appoint a new first-team manager is already under way, with further communication to follow in due course," the club said in a statement. Assistant Rob Kelly has also left the South Yorkshire club. Rotherham are the sixth team in the Championship, alongside Huddersfield, Birmingham, Millwall, Plymouth and Sunderland, to have changed managers at least twice this season. Former Wigan boss Richardson had been out of the game for a year when he was appointed as Taylor's successor at the New York Stadium. He took over with the club at the foot of the table, a position they remained in for the entirety of his tenure. Relegation was confirmed with a 1-0 home defeat by Plymouth on 5 April and they lost their following two games at West Brom and Swansea. Last season's second-tier survival had ended a run of six seasons where the club were either promoted to or relegated from the Championship. They host Birmingham City on Saturday in their penultimate home game of the season.

Steve Evans: Rotherham United reappoint Stevenage manager after sacking Leam Richardson..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0197/production/_133170400_shutterstock_editorial_14363285az.jpg Steve Evans won 57 of his 120 matches in charge of StevenageRotherham United have reappointed Stevenage boss Steve Evans as manager after sacking Leam Richardson. The Millers parted company with Richardson on Wednesday morning, two weeks after their relegation to League One was confirmed. Evans led the South Yorkshire side from League Two up to the Championship in his first spell in charge between 2012 and 2015. The Scot and assistant Paul Raynor have signed three-year deals. "Leam's departure was not something we took lightly, but following extensive conversations at board level, it was unanimously agreed that a change of direction was needed to give us the best possible chance of bouncing back to the Championship at the first time of asking," chairman Tony Stewart told the club website. "In Steve and Paul, we have two individuals that understand the Rotherham United 'DNA' and know what it takes to build a successful team. They have a proven track record of success at a plethora of clubs, including our own." The 61-year-old becomes Rotherham's third manager of what has been a dismal campaign.

Barnsley sack boss Neill Collins with one game remaining..

The Tykes are fifth in the third tier but are without a win in their past five matches. Should they fail to beat Northampton on Saturday in their last game, they will drop out of the play-off places if two of Lincoln, Oxford and Blackpool win. Collins, 40, took over at Oakwell in July after a spell in charge of USL Championship side Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USA. Director of football Mladen Sormaz said in a statement on the club website, external that "with a crucial season conclusion ahead of us, we feel that now is the right time to make a change". The South Yorkshire side have not dropped out of the top six once since 3rd October. They were three points off second-placed Bolton with a game in hand after blowing a 2-0 lead over Wanderers in a home match on 5 March. However, they subsequently lost 5-1 at home to Lincoln five days later and have won just two of their nine matches since then and Saturday's 3-2 reverse at Blackpool proved to be the Scot's last match. Coach Martin Devaney has been placed in interim charge as Barnsley look to secure a play-off berth for the second successive season. Lincoln host promoted Portsmouth, while Oxford and Blackpool face away trips to Exeter and Reading respectively in League One's final round of matches on Saturday.
