I think all this Matthew Taylor stuff is nonsense if I was to be honest and a sad indigtment of the intelligence of a fair few who follow the game. Most people in whatever line of work that they carry out would make a move to a competitive company if the package offered was far in advance of the one that they were currently on and if they did would they expect abuse and people hanging around their house at all hours of the night from their previous employer ? I think not, it's all pretty pathetic if you ask me. Sorry that I can only like this post once because it hits the nail on the head. Pathetic and sad,you see these people their faces contorted with rage shrieking abuse at the players and I laugh because they remind me of the old ladies that used to go to the wrestling and sit at the front to shout at the wrestlers. Of course Taylor had to go and earn more money to give his family a better lifestyle,it was talked about for a few weeks before he went that he would be going to city. I honestly believe that Rovers let it go to the last minute so that they had an excuse not to buy a forward to replace him ! they got the transfer fee and saved on his wages too,if that is correct it shows the ambition of the present regime...still as Hamer told us at the time the rest of the team had goals in them haha.

As a kid I can remember being in the North Enclosure at Eastville and wondering what on earth was happening when as soon as the opposing team took the field the crowd started booing and jeering one of their players. My Dad explained this was because the player was Dai Ward who had left Rovers under something of a cloud a few years earlier. I think it must have been a game against Brentford in 1964 or 1965 which were the years when Ward played for them. Darlo Gas will be able to tell us more but I believe Dai Ward was one of Rovers greatest ever goal scorers and would be classed as a legend, almost up there with Geoff Bradford, if he hadn't left in the way he did. Apparently he fell out with Bert Tann and threatened to down tools if Rovers didn't allow him to break his contract and join Cardiff City who were in the first division. When he did leave and joined Cardiff for the 61/62 season he became their top scorer although they were relegated from the top flight along with Chelsea.
Looking back at this now one can see how understandable it is that Ward would have yearned for the chance to play in the first division but equally how Rovers would have been keen to hold on to a contracted player who may have helped save us from our own relegation in 61/62. I remember the reaction to Ward's reappearance at Eastville being loud and hostile with some vicious humour thrown in but I can't say I felt it was hatred.
The problem I have with this Taylor obsession is that it reinforces the Gashead "victim culture" which I think has held us back for years. Bad things happen and we may feel aggrieved but it makes much more sense to move on and create our own success rather than bear grudges and always blame others for our failure. If Rovers were riding high in League 1 and we had credible plans for a new stadium on the table then that would be by far the best way of showing Matty Taylor that he would have been better off staying.

North enclosure says it all Swiss, home of the Rovers boo boys,at least Dai Ward was playing for another team, the North enclosure used to give abuse to players IN the Rovers team,Steve White and Graham Withey being two that were worst abused,Robin Stubbs was another.

The test is, would you say it to his face, 121? The answer here is no, despite what you may claim. Sticks and stones, and all that... The real nastiness is the elbowing of Kilgore, that can cause real damage....but it gets brushed over because poor someone bemoans the fact that some unkind words were sung and it hurt his poor feelings. Pathetic. Many many workplaces endure harsher conditions than 90mins of baiting. Many schools do too. Bullying is rife on some building sites, factory places and even in Houses of Parliament. I'm not condoning it, I'm just pointing out in my opinion he gets everything he deserves, because he 100 % brought it on himself and sympathy runs at zero... o2. I agree with most of what you’ve said. And it is all sticks and stones and I doubt it’s any surprise to MT. But, Angelo Balanta got a good reception when he came back with Carlisle in November 2015 and Tom L got lots of thanks on here when he left, on a free after refusing to sign a contract so we got nothing for his over 200 games for us. MT signed for us in August ‘16 for 6 months with a release clause of £300k. So we got something for him. He played a far bigger part in our two promotion than many other players and certainly more than either of the other two I mentioned. Before anyone comes back on it, I do understand the BCFC1982 element of the abuse he gets and that makes the difference, so I know why it happens. But it’s a ridiculous position to adopt. He played such an important part in taking us from our lowest position back to our historical place in League 1. If anyone had said that to me (us?) in September 2014 we wouldn’t have believed it before biting our own arm off for it to be true. And had the club shown him that he had made the wrong problem by showing some signs of progress since he’s left that would be a far better reaction. Instead, unfortunately, he’s been shown to have made the right decision from a personal point of view. And I feel sad saying that. I will always be grateful to him for the part he played in our recovery from our lowest position and find it bizarre that Tom L, who I would always support and cheer him if he ever returned to the Mem, gets such an easy ride compared to MT. That’s a rhetorical question btw, I really know why, but is still something I find illogical on most levels. My tin hat is firmly on! 😉 UTG!

We can be grateful for his goals when we were at a low ebb, but he was going nowhere when forest green released him and DC gave him another chance at conference level. He couldn’t hit a barn door for his first half a season, if we’d replaced him that Jan with a proven goal scorer he’d have probably ended up at Weston Super Mare. No one can begrudge him a money spinning move at that stage of his life, but his attitude towards us then and ever since had been that of a spoilt brat who’s forgotten his roots and in my opinion doesn’t deserve any respect back. That said, the flack should begin and end on the pitch and without the appalling chants. He’s no more than a pantomime villain who’s career is only heading downhill now

The FA Cup has again proved to be a welcome distraction for us and potentially a productive one, with Finley getting back in the side effectively and Whelan having more and more influence.
It was seen as a chance to rest players in the past but I like the way we used it to build momentum on recent improved performances.
Gives me confidence going into the difficult game Saturday. The fixture list is not our friend at home atm..
