To be fair some of the abuse he was getting on Twitter was a little over the top. As none of the others are on it, he takes all the flack!
Personally, I dont think anything will change with just one man leaving.

Maybe he no longer sees the stadium happening so will now cash out his pension ... or Peter Dunford is now on the board. Oh dear!!

Why is this good? The wrong man has gone surely. Higgs needs to be able to build a new board. I hope Messrs Dunford and Bradshaw put their shares up for sale and settle down in another of the box' to watch Rovers. If they sold there shares, higgs would probably buy them and have even more power to do what he wants. Just think about when it started to go wrong!

As I said, for me this is an indication of a wider split at Board level about future funding and the current chronic status.
I would argue that Geoff feels considerable resentment about how the club has fallen under Higgs' Chairmanship and how this has tarnished his family's reputation in terms of nearly 30 years' involvement.
The club is a joke and Saturday's debacle underlined it in red ink. I thought this day of Geoff disappearing would never come!!! I suspect that it is not goodbye though, as he will be back on a white charger when all 4 wheels finally come off the BRFC Nissan Micra. We are at 3 wheels off currently.

You say the Dunfords saved this club years ago. Me & most Rovers fans will be forever grateful on what they did for the club back then And Geoff donated a Rovers shirt to a charity I was helping which I am thankful for. But, that was then and now with our club in free fall both on and off the pitch, now is the time for major changes. Despite rumours, nothing visible was done close season boardroom wise. Despite lots of manager changes over the years, the one thing has remained the same is the board of directors. Time to act before too late.

Unless he sells his shares of the club & ground, then this feels as pointless as moving Ward from Manager to DOF, he will always be lurking about.

Personally, I dont think anything will change with just one man leaving. Unfortnately Qatar, GoD was adept at handing it out and has been for a long period. He has made many threats to people over the years and made many comments attacking others. He was never able to take criticism and many would say that has been the downfall of the club from the BoD perspective. Both he and the other board members developed a siege mentality and even though much of the criticsm was constructive they couldn't accept it the way it was meant. I can partly understand that as he may have felt that people were ungrateful at what his family, amongst others, did to save the club in the time at Twerton. However he took too much personally when it wasn't meant that way. The time for change is long overdue. I wish him well with his health problems but believe his going will hopefully allow the club to change direction. There are many good Gasheads who could help the club but haven't been able to. I hope they will now be invited to do so.

Not sad to see him leave the board as such, but I hope he is in good health and certainly wish him no ill.
He is involved in the Riverside trust isn't he? Perhaps he will focus his efforts there away from Rovers.
Vaughn's summation wouldn't surprise me in the slightest

I find it absolutely hilarious, although extremely worrying, that Nick Higgs is being held up as the devil whilst many seem to think the wrong man has gone.
It is only by pure luck that we weren't relegated in 2002 when league two still only had one relegation spot and Halifax were somehow worse than us.
Also during Geoff's reign he saw the club relegated into the bottom division of the football league for the first time in its history, sold millions of pounds worth of strikers with the money disappearing into a black hole over and over again, divided the fan base, refused any offers of help or investment, rejected any plans for the club to be run with a long-term strategy, refused to allow plans to improve the club to even be heard by the rest of the board, shamfully put the club up for sale for a ridiculous price and then crowed about nobody wanting to buy...
Are people serious? The downward spiral started a long, long time before Nick Higgs joined the club and one or two amazing seasons, almost solely as a result of the purchase of Rickie Lambert, doesn't disguise that.
Geoff Dunford is one of the main proponents of the "fingers in the ear / head up the arse" strategy of running a football club. I am banned from following him on Twitter and I just went to look back at the messages I had sent him incase I had over stepped the line in the aftermath of relegation and not a single one of them could be classed as even approaching abusive. Critical yes, abusive? definitely not. Kevin Spencer is the most high profile example of Geoff's refusal to accept any form of criticism.
Geoff Dunford never saved Bristol Rovers, his father did, and he has been riding off the coat tails of Denis' actions ever since.
I hope Geoff hasn't got health problems, I wouldn't wish that on anybody, but that is as far as it goes. Good riddance.

all that can be said is many thanks to the dunford family for saving the club back in the 80s so hopefully higgs and co may be able to move on and start running the club as it should be
dont know if anyone heard a guy on twentypences phone in after the game Saturday gave the hint that someone with money had approached the board offering to invest money but his offer was turned down. If this is the sort of attitude of the board it does sound like a closed shop.sounded like the guy had the details but was not going to let anything go. and even in the unlikely event of someone coming in and offering a take over i dont think higgs would sell, as he has far to much tied up in the new ground if it ever goes ahead.so where it goes from here f""k only knows

Director Geoff Dunford has resigned from the board at non-league Bristol Rovers for personal reasons. Dunford has been involved with the club for 27 years and was chairman between 2004 and 2007, following in the footsteps of his father, Dennis. In a statement, he revealed he initially resigned in February, prior to Rovers' relegation from the Football League, but was persuaded to stay. "The board have my support in turning the club around," said Dunford. "My participation over the last two years has dwindled to mostly giving financial support and I hope the board can find someone young and energetic to replace me. "In Chris Jelf and Edward Ware the club have two people who can lead us to better things. They are prepared to work hard with (chairman) Nick Higgs to bring about a change in our fortunes. "It will not happen overnight, but please show patience." Bristol Rovers are playing in the Conference for the first time in 94 years and have made a disappointing start to their campaign, taking one point from three games and scoring only once. Dunford's statement concluded: "To all Gasheads, please back your team in their hour of need. Positivity is so important." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28835084

He wanted to buy Birmingham City earlier this year as well. To do that, you obviously need to have money. Must have been a good reason to turn him away if true...

Read between the lines:
He can't believe that his legacy has been tarnished. He wants clear blue water between the this / next stage of demise and himself/family.
He won't be funding it any longer - nor will Bradshaw, hence the playing budget cuts compared to high and mighty talk immediately after League demotion.
He wants regime change - new leaders in terms of Jelf/Ware. Chris is more of a front-man than Ed.
Chris needs to step forward quickly, take control of the footballing side and stabilise situation the continued decline. In short, he needs to put his stamp on it. He is powerless ref accumulated debt / stadium.
Higgs can work on the UWE project. When that goes t*ts up - he will have kelvin zero credibility left, as opposed to zero credibiliy currently.

Despite the good the dunfords may have done in the past the board room is in desperate need if a clear out . It's a move in the right direction for the club I just hope if he's selling his shares and getting out completely he doesn't sell them to any current board members.
