that's circumstantial I still think it's a good interview. You're still a bit tempted Well you and Vaughan and contradiction think it's a good interview but that is probably because you like Tom and think he's a good bloke and you feel you are helping him by showing support. In the same way that most Gasheads like Wael and think they are helping by encouraging him to carry on the way he is whereas, as you know, I think the exact opposite is true. As bondigas posted above the interview indicates the limit of Tom's ambition is to be employed in the football business in a position which doesn't tax him and which fits with his personal preferences. Just like Wael wanted to own a football club, any club, because that was his ambition and whilst he pays lip service to aspiring to success his main priority is to be liked and for people to be grateful to him. But without a genuine desire to progress or the drive and energy to make things happen you very soon start slipping backwards which is what has happened at Rovers. We are doing a disservice to Tom by praising this uninspiring interview and I think he knows that, and many fans can also see it, which is why it hasn't received greater exposure. If he wants to progress his career whether at Rovers or anywhere else he has to do much better than this. Bit patronising eh

Maybe the patronising comes about when there is little substance to someones argument, hence its something to fall back on. Swiss would get more support and credibility if he identified the bits of TG's interview that he disagreed with, like the need for a new stadium, like the need to be sustainable etc etc) which he cant do because 99% of the fan base will support it and he knows its correct. But maybe I'm being patronising

Can you explain what the management team are actually doing to achieve the stated aims of a new stadium, financial stability and Championship football ?

I saw a great deal of realism in the interview, trying to make the best of a bad job (ie the Mem)and understanding the challenges that the decades of lack of investment has brought us. And that sustainability is desired, but realistically not achievable whilst at the Mem, and that shortfall needs owner investment from WAQ. There is an acknowledgement that biggest priority is new stadium, but in the meantime we try and maximise what we can at the Mem. I see no complacency. I suspect Swiss doesnt like reference to continued owner investment to fund shortfall, even though its an inevitable requirement but I'm rather surprised he didnt say so. A positive reaction to interview. People will continue to carp, but he was thoughtful and definitely not smug or complacent. I love reading the reaction to such interviews as it reveals the level of closed minds in our fan base. He is disliked because he is an outsider, a moderniser, 30 years too young, nothing to do with the SC or old regime. He is working under massive constraints and we need to provide him with some better tools to generate revenue. Good interview. Not really, its because he does bugger all right , first time and we are going backwards as a club, do you dispute that ?

I'm a bit bemused as to why anyone would ask me to But you said you thought he explained what the management team are trying to do ? I thought, when Nick Elston asked a question which all Gasheads would like to know the answer to, about what is happening with the stadium, all Tom did was mumble a re-hash of the things Wael had listed in his open letter of June 2020. "Bringing through young players, improve across all departments, integrate the fanbase with the community and being a family club" before finally remembering to say we need a new stadium to generate income. That is not explaining what is happening with the new stadium or what the management team are trying to do it is just repeating the same platitudes we have heard for five years. We already know what they say they would like to do so don't you think it's about time we were told how they are going to do it ?

Again. Let's stop going round this loop

But maybe I'm being patronising The reason this interview has knocked me back a bit is because I thought Tom was the one of the four main board members who had the drive and energy to actually make something happen. Of course the Ticketmaster issues have caused concern and many fans are against outsourcing (which I am for) and The Duke has brought up some fair points about mistakes which Tom has made but taking everything into account I still thought he had qualities which Rovers needed and could be built on. But after watching and listening to the interview I'm terribly disappointed and it's not me you should be asking about substance it's Tom. The pièce de résistance was when he said the stadium was the most complicated piece of the jigsaw "as the club has found over the past decades and decades". So it's not surprising you are on-side with him contradiction because you also keep telling us that Rovers problems stem from years of under investment and that our current precarious position, with no sign of a new stadium,. financial sustainability or Championship football, is actually the fault of Mearns-Milne, Holmes, Flook, Dunford and Higgs. If it's nothing to do with Wael and Tom, and they are just the victims of a situation they inherited, why didn't he just say "don't tell I tell he"

In fairness Swiss nobody can say either way what is going on as the club isn't informing the fans and there is nobody on the inside 'in the know' telling outsiders. Both you, those who have a similar view and those who have a contrary view can only speculate, sadly.

You can't say TG gave a poor interview and give the reason as being failure to answer questions that he was never even asked.

It may be in inefficient companies but it is a reflection of complacency. Well paid accountants &/or Company Secretary should keep on top of this. If a company can't keep on top of its paperwork, I would always question what are their budgeting, operational, commercial and financial skills like? I would also try to check where the conflicts, friction, stress points are in the company. Easy to shrug off, not so good when a company goes tits up due to a basic failure? Absolutely spot on Cheshire. And here is a masterclass in complacency. I'm somewhere in the middle of this discussion... It's an okay-ish interview, but I wasn't overly impressed. - Positives: Tom was fairly open and co-operative. He's given up his own time here. - Negatives: A lot of the descriptive words Swiss has used apply - there was little focus, enthusiasm or dynamism. But what should we expect? Tom was being interviewed, in his home, via Skype, essentially about himself (rather than about BRFC), to a fairly niche youtube channel (rather than by a journalist). - Did I learn anything new? - Not really, apart from he's married with 4 children ... But what should we expect? (see above). - Tom's answers don't come across to me in the professional manner of an Executive Director ... But what should we expect? (see above). - In the cover photo of the video, Tom is wearing his suit and a BRFC tie, yet in the interview he's casually dressed ... But what should we expect? (see above) ... perhaps expectation would have been lowered had the cover picture been different. I would have preferred a different approach by an Executive Director of my football club. Perhaps times have moved on. Perhaps I have to accept things have changed. Nick Elston is a Motivational Speaker. Seems to me Tom could benefit from one of his sessions. They're not for me though - I've seen the videos of congratulatory participants and it's all too "me, me, me" for me.
